Perils of perimenopause

Perimenopause usually starts in a woman’s 40s and is the natural yet often turbulent transition leading to menopause and in the early stages, symptoms may be subtle but can become more disruptive during the later stages. Every woman is unique and will experience perimenopause differently.

On average, perimenopause can last anywhere from four to six years, but for some women, it can last anywhere from one to 10 years and presents differently for every woman. We are all unique.

In the early stages of perimenopause, cycles may still appear regular, but hormonal fluctuations can trigger sleep issues, mood changes, weight changes or increased PMS symptoms. In the later stages, periods become irregular and symptoms like hot flushes, brain fog, night sweats and anxiety, amongst others, often intensify. You may also experience exacerbations and remissions in symptoms associated with these hormonal fluctuations.

Perimenopause doesn’t have to be overwhelming and with the right guidance, you can manage and reduce symptoms, protect your long-term health and move through this transition feeling supported and in control.
